About the Pig Latin Converter

This Pig Latin converter runs entirely in your browser. It transforms English text into Pig Latin, a constructed language game popular among English speakers. The rules of Pig Latin

  • Words starting with a vowel (a, e, i, o, u) — Simply add "way" to the end. For example, "apple" becomes "appleway", and "egg" becomes "eggway".
  • Words starting with consonants — Move the leading consonant (or consonant cluster) to the end of the word and add "ay". For example, "hello" becomes "ellohay", and "smile" becomes "ilesmay".
  • Capitalization — The converted word starts with a capital letter if the original did.
  • Punctuation — Punctuation attached to words is preserved in its original position.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool upload my text? No. All conversion happens locally in your browser. Your text never leaves your device.

Can Pig Latin be converted back to English? Generally yes, but there can be ambiguity — for example, "appleway" clearly came from "apple", but "ayay" could come from words ending in clusters. This tool only converts in one direction.

Does it handle uppercase and punctuation? Yes. Capital letters are preserved at the start of converted words, and trailing punctuation stays in place.

Does it work with non-English text? Pig Latin is designed for English. Words in other languages may be converted according to the same rules, but the result may not be meaningful.
